Don’t Drive without Motor Vehicle Insurance in Indiana

If you get behind the wheel on Indiana roadways, you are required to maintain auto insurance coverage for the vehicle you are driving. To take the risk of being uninsured is just not worth it. Not only can your license be suspended if you drive without insurance, but your rights to recover if you are seriously injured in a motor vehicle crash through no fault of your own can also be in jeopardy. It’s a lose–lose situation.

As of July 2015, the Indiana legislature enacted a new set of laws that states that, if an uninsured driver is injured during a motor vehicle accident, then the driver is not able to recover for noneconomic damages against the person who caused the crash if the uninsured driver has been cited for failing to have insurance within the last five years, even if the uninsured driver did not cause the crash. This means the driver could not recover for elements of damages such as physical pain, emotional suffering, physical impairment, loss of enjoyment, loss of companionship and services, and so on.

With so much at stake, don’t take any chances. If you are involved in an accident, the consequences could be severely life-altering.
