What does it mean to celebrate Veterans Day? Taking time to acknowledge our country’s armed services means honoring the brave men and women, living and dead, who have fought America’s toughest battles, both past and present. According to latest statistics by the US Department of Veterans Affairs, our country is home to more than 20 million veterans who exemplify loyalty and dignity.

America’s inaugural Veteran’s Day commenced on November 11, 1919 and was originally called “Armistice Day,” and was celebrated as the first anniversary of the end of World War I. It wasn’t until 1926, however, that Congress passed a resolution for an annual day of observance and November 11th became a national holiday in 1938.

Giving full thanks to the military goes beyond discounts, sales, and deals. The sacrifices these brave men and women have made to protect the rights of this nation’s citizens cannot go unnoticed. In 2001, the United States Senate passed Resolution 243, which designates the week of November 11 through the 17th as “National Veterans Awareness Week.” During this week, elementary and secondary schools are encouraged to increase their educational efforts towards students regarding the contributions and sacrifices of veterans.

Our dedicated staff at Langer & Langer are proud to support our country’s armed service members and wish to extend our deepest gratitude to those who have served and fought for our country.
