Two Men Killed, Two Others Injured in South Side Crash at Carson Avenue and South Keystone Avenue

Indianapolis, IN (April 04, 2026) – Two men were killed, and two others were injured in a two-car crash at the intersection of Carson Avenue and South Keystone Avenue on Indianapolis’s south side in the early hours of Saturday morning.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, at approximately 2:30 a.m., officers with the Beech Grove Police Department observed a gray Dodge Challenger driving recklessly near the intersection of South Sherman Drive and East Thompson Road. Officers initiated a short pursuit of the vehicle, which was terminated shortly after when officers lost sight of the Challenger. A minute later, a crash was reported at Carson Avenue and South Keystone Avenue.

Investigators found two vehicles involved in the crash, including the Challenger Beech Grove officers had chased a few minutes prior. IMPD said two men in one vehicle were killed in the crash. Two other men in the Dodge Challenger were transported to an area hospital for treatment. At least one occupant was detained for further investigation.

IMPD is investigating the crash, and the Beech Grove Police Department is assisting. The cause of the crash has not been officially determined, and the investigation remains ongoing.

What Families Should Know After a Fatal Crash in Indianapolis

When two people are killed in a crash connected to a reckless driver, the families left behind face questions that the police investigation alone will not answer. Indiana law provides specific rights, and understanding them early changes what is possible.

Can families pursue a civil claim before the criminal investigation concludes? Yes. A civil wrongful death claim operates entirely independently of any criminal charges or investigation. Families do not need to wait for the criminal process to end before consulting an attorney or beginning to preserve evidence. In most cases, acting early strengthens the civil claim.

What if a police pursuit was connected to this crash? When a law enforcement pursuit precedes a fatal crash, questions of institutional liability may arise alongside individual driver liability. Whether the actions of a pursuing agency contributed to the crash is a legally complex question that requires independent investigation – separate from the official inquiry being conducted by the same agencies involved.

What can a wrongful death claim recover in Indiana? Under Indiana’s wrongful death statute (IC 34-23-1-1), surviving family members may pursue compensation for funeral and burial expenses, loss of the financial support the deceased provided, and the emotional impact of the loss. An attorney can assess the specific circumstances and identify every liable party and every available source of recovery.

Indiana’s deadline: Wrongful death claims must be filed within two years of the date of death. Acting early preserves evidence and protects every legal option available to the family.
