White County, IN – Indiana State Police Investigate Jeep vs Pickup Crash That Killed One Passenger

Jeep vs Pickup Crash

White County, IN (August 27, 2026) – Indiana State Police troopers from the Lafayette District and officers with the White County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fatal two-vehicle crash at the intersection of County Road 1100 West and Division Road near Remington at around 5:30 p.m. EST.

A preliminary investigation shows that a 2026 Jeep Compass was traveling northbound on County Road 1100 West when it pulled into the path of a 2025 Ford F-350 pickup traveling westbound on Division Road, according to Indiana State Police.

Traffic traveling northbound on County Road 1100 West is controlled by a stop sign, police said. Traffic traveling westbound on Division Road does not have a stop sign.

All three occupants in the Jeep were transported to area hospitals in Lafayette, and one passenger was pronounced dead. Both occupants of the Ford F-350 were also transported to area hospitals for treatment.

The identity of the deceased was to be released by the Tippecanoe County Coroner’s Office following notification of the family.

The ISP crash reconstruction team is continuing to investigate the August 27 crash. Trooper Mason Wiley was assisted at the scene by additional ISP troopers, the White County Sheriff’s Office, the Wolcott Police Department, the Tippecanoe Coroner’s Office, the Wolcott Fire Department, Wolcott EMS, the Monticello Fire Department, and Monticello EMS.

This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.

Fatal Intersection Crashes in White County, Indiana

Rural county-road intersections carry high speeds and limited sight lines. When a crash happens at one, the physical evidence disappears quickly once the roadway reopens and the vehicles are towed.

  • Who may bear responsibility: the driver who entered from the stop-sign-controlled approach, and in some cases a vehicle owner or an employer if a vehicle was being driven for work
  • What investigators examine: the ISP reconstruction findings, event data recorders in both vehicles, skid and gouge evidence, and sight lines at the intersection
  • What families and injured occupants can preserve now: the full crash report, both vehicles before repair or salvage, and their own medical records from the Lafayette hospitals
  • What to avoid: recorded statements to any insurance company before speaking with an attorney

A passenger is rarely at fault for a crash. Passengers in either vehicle may have claims against one driver, the other, or both, depending on what the reconstruction shows.

Indiana applies a modified comparative fault standard. A person may still recover compensation as long as they are found less than 51 percent at fault.

Wrongful death claims in Indiana must generally be filed within two years of the date of death (IC 34-23-1-1). Injury claims carry the same two-year deadline (IC 34-11-2-4). For this crash, that deadline falls on August 27, 2028.

One family is now planning a funeral while four other people are still being treated, and none of them chose to be part of this. The waiting, the phone calls, and the not knowing are their own kind of weight.

Our Indiana car accident lawyer team has handled intersection collisions where the right-of-way question decided everything, and our Indiana wrongful death attorney practice has walked Indiana families through claims that began exactly this way, with a preliminary report and no name released yet.

The Jeep and the pickup both hold event data that a reconstruction can read, and both are headed for a salvage yard once the insurers release them. Asking for them to be held now is the step that cannot be taken later.
