Georgetown, IN – Camden Reed, 30, of Crestwood Dies After Being Struck by Train on State Road 64

Camden Reed, 30, of Crestwood Dies

Georgetown, IN (October 8, 2026) – Camden Reed, 30, of Crestwood, Kentucky, died after a train struck him near a railway overpass at State Road 64 in Georgetown, the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office confirmed.

Deputies were dispatched to the area of 9535 State Road 64 at about 2:22 in the morning on a report of a pedestrian struck by a train, the sheriff’s office said. Officers arrived and found Reed on the ground next to the railway overpass.

Officers performed life-saving measures until emergency medical personnel arrived, according to the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office. Reed was transported to University of Louisville Hospital, where he died of his injuries later that day.

The name of the railroad company involved and the condition of the crossing at the time of the incident have not been publicly released. The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate.

This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.

Key Legal Points After a Pedestrian Is Killed by a Train in Floyd County

The Federal Railroad Administration tracks hundreds of pedestrian fatalities at and near railroad tracks across the United States each year. When someone is killed in a railroad incident in Indiana, these points apply to any potential claim.

  • First steps for the family: Request the incident report and the investigating unit’s contact from the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office. Preserve any footage from the crossing area before it is overwritten. Route all railroad company and insurer contact through one person or an attorney. Keep records of all medical and funeral expenses from the start.
  • Who may be responsible: The railroad company that operated the train may be liable for crossing conditions, warning systems, or the operation of the train itself. If Indiana DOT maintained any element of the grade crossing infrastructure on State Road 64, the state could be a responsible party as well. An attorney typically requests crossing maintenance records and signal history during the investigation.
  • If fault is shared: Indiana applies modified comparative fault. A wrongful death claim is not barred unless the decedent was 51 percent or more at fault (IC 34-51-2-6). Partial fault on the part of the deceased does not end the family’s right to pursue a claim.
  • Government notice deadlines: Claims against the State of Indiana or Indiana DOT require a written notice of tort claim within 270 days of the date of death (IC 34-13-3-6). Claims against Floyd County or another political subdivision require written notice within 180 days (IC 34-13-3-8). Both deadlines arrive well before the civil filing window closes. [Publisher: insert calculated deadline dates once exact accident date is confirmed.]
  • Filing deadline: Indiana wrongful death claims must be filed within two years of the date of death (IC 34-23-1-1). Reed’s family may also pursue a survival claim for the losses he experienced before he died.
