Indianapolis, IN (Feb 18, 2026) – A multi-vehicle collision claimed the life of a 64-year-old man in Hendricks County on Wednesday afternoon. According to the Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office, emergency responders were dispatched to the intersection of U.S. 36 and County Road 525 East at approximately 12:00 p.m. following reports of a serious semi-truck crash.
Preliminary findings indicate that a Freightliner semi-truck with an attached trailer was traveling eastbound on U.S. 36 when it allegedly ran a red light at the intersection. The semi-truck struck a Chevrolet truck traveling northbound. The force of the impact caused the Chevrolet to collide with a Chrysler that was positioned in the westbound left-turn lane.
Tragically, the driver of the Chevrolet, identified as Terry Schultz, 64, was pronounced dead at the scene. No other participants in the crash required hospital transport. The Indiana State Police assisted with the investigation, during which one of the involved drivers was detained on behalf of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The intersection remained partially closed for several hours as crash reconstruction specialists worked the scene. While the investigation into whether drugs or alcohol were factors is ongoing, the primary cause appears to be the failure of the commercial vehicle to stop at a traffic signal.
Our deepest sympathies are with the deceased’s family during this time of loss.
Commercial Truck Accidents in Indianapolis, IN
Accidents involving semi-trucks at intersections like U.S. 36 and County Road 525 East are frequently catastrophic due to the massive disparity in vehicle weight. Under Indiana law, when a commercial driver fails to obey traffic signals, such as running a red light, the trucking company and the driver may be held liable for the resulting damages. These cases often involve complex federal trucking regulations and require an immediate investigation into the driver’s logs, vehicle maintenance records, and onboard “black box” data.
For families who have lost a loved one in a commercial vehicle crash, Indiana provides a legal pathway through wrongful death claims. These claims are designed to help survivors recover funeral costs, the loss of future earnings, and compensation for the loss of companionship. Because large trucking corporations and their insurers move quickly to protect their interests, it is vital to secure legal representation that can preserve evidence at the scene and hold all negligent parties accountable under state and federal law.
