Jay County, Indiana (July 14, 2026) – A dump truck and a van collided at the intersection of State Road 1 and County Road 400 South early Tuesday morning, killing one person, according to the Indiana State Police.
The crash happened at approximately 6 a.m. on the morning of July 14. Preliminary information reviewed by investigators indicates the van was traveling east on County Road 400 South and failed to yield to the dump truck, which was heading north on State Road 1.
Indiana State Police responded along with the Jay County Sheriff’s Department, Redkey Fire, Redkey Police Department, Lutheran Air, Dunkirk EMS, and Portland EMS. Police have not released the identity of the person who died, saying they are withholding names until more information is confirmed.
