Gas City, IN (September 19, 2026) – A juvenile driver died and four other people were injured early Saturday morning after a single-vehicle crash at Gas City Park, according to the Indiana State Police.
Emergency crews arrived at the park just before 3:30 a.m. on September 19. A preliminary investigation found that a 2021 Hyundai Elantra was heading southbound on a road near Duck Walk Run when it left the roadway and struck a tree.
Investigators believe speed contributed to the crash, though the Indiana State Police Crash Reconstruction Team continues to evaluate the scene.
The Grant County Coroner’s Office pronounced the driver dead at the scene. The coroner’s office has not yet released the driver’s identity.
Four other people were inside the vehicle, including three juveniles. Two were airlifted to area hospitals, and two others were taken by ambulance to local hospitals.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Gas City Police Department, Grant County Coroner’s Office, Gas City Fire Department, Grant County EMS, and Marion General EMS.

Indiana’s child wrongful death statute allows two years from the date of death to file a claim (IC 34-23-2-1). Based on the September 19, 2026 date of this crash, that deadline falls on September 19, 2028. Injured passengers have the same two-year window under the state’s general personal injury statute (IC 34-11-2-4).
