Mishawaka, IN (October 14, 2026) – A car crashed through the front door of the Jimmy John’s restaurant on North Main Street in Mishawaka shortly after 4 p.m. on October 14. No injuries were reported.
Mishawaka police said a man in his 90s drove the car into the building. Police said he thought he was driving in reverse but actually had the car in drive.
The restaurant was closed for the night after the crash.
What to Do After a Car Crash Into a Building in Mishawaka, IN
Of the 200,035 traffic crashes Indiana recorded in 2024, 166,720 caused only property damage, and another 20,612 involved possible injuries, meaning a complaint of pain, according to Indiana Crash Facts 2024.
- Anyone who was inside or near the building should get checked within 72 hours, even without pain, because whiplash, concussion, and internal injuries can surface late. Headache, neck stiffness, numbness, and abdominal pain are the warning signs.
- Photograph the vehicle, the damaged entrance, and the surrounding area before repairs or towing begin, and ask Mishawaka police for the crash report number.
- Report the damage to your own insurer, file the property damage claim promptly, and check your rental and loss-of-use coverage. Do not give a recorded statement to another insurer before you understand your rights.
- Keep every repair estimate, medical bill, and record of missed work in one place.
- The filing deadline runs from the crash date, and a delayed injury still supports a claim. Indiana allows two years for a personal injury claim (IC 34-11-2-4), which puts the deadline at October 14, 2028.
