Columbus, IN (August 12, 2026) – A driver is dead after a car and a truck collided in Bartholomew County Wednesday afternoon, sending the car down an embankment, according to the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded a little after 12:30 p.m. on August 12 to the intersection of State Road 46 and North 675 West. The sheriff’s office said the car went down an embankment after the collision, and deputies found the driver dead at the scene. The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
The driver of the truck, an 18-year-old man from Columbus, complained of pain in his hands and consented to a blood draw at the scene. The sheriff’s office said he is cooperating with the investigation.
The crash remains under investigation, and no cause has been released.
