Shelby County, IN (August 11, 2026) – A 20-year-old Rushville man died, and two other Rushville men were hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash near Morristown Tuesday morning, according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department.
The sheriff’s department said multiple agencies responded to the intersection of County Road 500 East and U.S. 52 just before 8 a.m. on August 11. A preliminary investigation found that a 2007 Pontiac was traveling southbound on 500 East, entered U.S. 52, and was turning east when it was hit by a 2019 Ford F-150 heading west on U.S. 52.
The driver of the Pontiac, a 20-year-old man from Rushville, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity will be released by the Shelby County Coroner’s Office. A passenger in the Pontiac, a 21-year-old man from Rushville, was taken to an Indianapolis hospital in critical condition.
The driver of the Ford, a 27-year-old man from Rushville, was taken to an area hospital with what the sheriff’s department described as sustained injuries.

Indiana’s wrongful death statute gives a family two years from the date of death to file a claim (IC 34-23-1-1), and the same two-year window applies to injury claims from the surviving passenger and the other driver (IC 34-11-2-4). For this crash, those deadlines fall on August 11, 2028.
