10-Year-Old Hospitalized After Vehicle Strikes

Millersburg, IN (August 17, 2026) – A 10-year-old boy was hospitalized Monday after he was struck by a vehicle while riding a scooter, police say.

The crash happened just before 3:45 p.m. on the afternoon of August 17, on Blessing Street west of Larimer Drive in Millersburg.

Police say a 36-year-old man was driving east on Blessing Street when the boy rode his scooter out of a driveway and into the road.

The driver tried to stop but hit the child. The boy was treated at the scene and then taken to a hospital in Fort Wayne.

This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.

Car Accidents in Indiana

A child riding out of a driveway does not automatically decide who is at fault. Indiana follows a modified comparative fault standard (IC 34-51-2-6), meaning the family may still recover compensation if the child is found less than 51% at fault.

  • Keep the boy’s medical appointments even after he is released, since some injuries in young children take days to fully show up
  • Avoid discussing the crash with the driver’s insurance company before speaking with an attorney
  • Ask neighbors on Blessing Street whether their doorbell or security cameras may have captured the crash
  • Do not sign anything from an insurance adjuster before an attorney reviews it

Indiana generally allows two years from the date of an injury to file a personal injury claim (IC 34-11-2-4), which would set the deadline at August 17, 2028. Because the boy is a minor, Indiana law typically extends that window until two years after he turns 18.
