St. Joseph County, IN – Two-Vehicle Toll Road Crash Sends Vehicle Into Data Center Construction Site

St. Joseph County, IN (August 26, 2026) – Firefighters responded to a crash that sent a vehicle off the Toll Road and into the Microsoft data center construction site.

It happened just after 8:30 a.m. on August 26 on the Toll Road near mile marker 84. That is just east of the Mishawaka exit.

The crash reportedly involves two vehicles. One of them rolled off the Toll Road and into the construction site.

Details are limited at this time. No information about injuries has been released.

Traffic in the eastbound lanes near the crash slowed, and drivers were asked to avoid the area.

This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.

Multi-Vehicle Crashes in St. Joseph County, Indiana

Two-vehicle crashes on the Toll Road get resolved by evidence, not by memory. That evidence starts disappearing the moment the lanes reopen.

  • See a doctor today, even if you walked away feeling fine. Rollover forces cause injuries that surface days later.
  • Do not give a recorded statement to the other driver’s insurance company. Adjusters call early for a reason.
  • Preserve what still exists: the crash report, photos of both vehicles, the position of debris, and the names of anyone who stopped.
  • Do not accept a settlement offer before a lawyer reviews it. Early offers arrive before the medical picture is complete.

Fault has not been determined here. Indiana follows modified comparative fault, so a driver found partly responsible can still recover, provided they are less than 51 percent at fault. Their award is reduced by their share.

Most Indiana injury claims must be filed within two years of the crash (IC 34-11-2-4). For a crash on August 26, 2026, that sets the deadline at August 26, 2028.
