Fort Wayne, IN (September 13, 2026) – Northbound Interstate 69 was shut down for hours Sunday afternoon after a semi-truck overturned near the Airport Expressway exit, according to Fort Wayne Dispatch.
The crash happened around 4:15 p.m. near mile marker 299 on I-69, just south of the Airport Expressway. Footage from the Indiana Department of Transportation’s TrafficWise cameras showed another vehicle involved in the collision. Fort Wayne Dispatch confirmed the roadway was closed and was not expected to reopen for several hours, with the nearby exit ramp also shut down while police and medics worked the scene.
On the afternoon of September 13, traffic backed up for miles as crews worked to clear the overturned trailer from the northbound lanes. It has not been determined whether anyone was injured in the crash.
This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.
Semi-Truck Accidents on Indiana Highways
- See a doctor the same day, even if you feel fine. Whiplash and internal injuries from a commercial vehicle collision often don’t show symptoms for 24 to 48 hours.
- Do not give a statement to the trucking company’s insurer. Their adjuster’s job is to minimize what the company owes, not to look out for you.
- Preserve everything tied to the truck: the driver’s logbook, the carrier’s maintenance records, and any black box or electronic control module data, since trucking companies are only required to hold this for a limited window.
- Don’t sign anything or accept a settlement before an attorney has reviewed the case. Commercial crashes often involve more than one liable party, including the driver, the trucking company, and whoever loaded or maintained the vehicle.
When a semi rolls over on the interstate, liability can extend well past the driver behind the wheel. Under Indiana’s modified comparative fault rule, an injured driver can still recover damages as long as they were less than 51% at fault for the crash. Indiana law generally gives injury victims two years from the date of the crash to file a personal injury claim (IC 34-11-2-4).
Contact Our Indiana Truck Accident Attorneys
Getting stuck behind a jackknifed semi is frustrating. Getting hit by one is something else entirely, and the days right after a crash like this are when evidence starts to disappear.
Our Indiana crash injury attorneys have spent more than 45 years handling cases involving commercial vehicles across the state, and we know how fast a trucking company’s insurer moves to lock down its own version of events.
A commercial carrier’s electronic logs and maintenance records can be purged on a routine schedule, so the sooner someone starts preserving that evidence, the stronger the case.
We work on contingency, so there’s no cost to talk and nothing owed unless we recover for you.
