Indianapolis, IN (August 9, 2026) – The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a fatal crash between a motorcycle and an SUV on the city’s northwest side. Officers were called to the area of Georgetown Road and Oakforge Drive around 8:30 p.m. on a report of a crash involving a motorcycle.
When officers arrived, they found the motorcycle and the SUV had collided. The motorcyclist, an adult man whose name has not been released, died at the scene. The driver of the SUV remained on scene and has been cooperating with investigators, according to IMPD.
Northbound Georgetown Road was closed for an extended period while IMPD processed the scene. Drivers were directed to use Guion Road as an alternate route. No information about what led to the crash, including which vehicle had the right of way, had been released at the time of this report.

Motorcycle Accident Claims on Indianapolis Roads

- An insurance adjuster may contact the family before the investigation is finished. A recorded statement given early, before the facts are settled, can be used to limit what a family ultimately recovers
- If the SUV driver’s insurance coverage isn’t enough to cover the full loss, the motorcyclist’s own underinsured motorist coverage, if he carried it, may be able to make up the difference
Indiana law does not require a motorcyclist to be found completely fault-free before his family can pursue a claim. It only requires that his share of responsibility, if any, stay under the 51 percent threshold described above.
Wrongful death claims in Indiana must generally be filed within two years of the date of death (IC 34-23-1-1). For this crash, that deadline falls on August 9, 2028.
