Indianapolis, IN (September 29, 2026) – A school bus overturned on Interstate 465 on the city’s east side Tuesday morning, injuring three children.
The crash happened around 10:10 a.m. on I-465 northbound near East Washington Street.
The bus, operated by Warren Township Schools, was carrying 25 fifth-graders from Creston Intermediate Middle School along with three adults at the time of the crash.
Indiana State Police said three children were injured, though the injuries were not listed as serious. All 28 people on board received medical evaluation and care, according to the school corporation.
Several lanes on I-465 northbound were closed for a time as crews worked the scene, causing a significant traffic backup.
What caused the crash, and whether another vehicle was involved, has not yet been released.
This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.
School Bus Accidents in Indiana
A crash involving a school bus can involve more than one potentially responsible party.
- Who may be liable: depends on what investigators find, whether it points to the bus operator, the school corporation, or another driver
- What investigators examine: the bus’s maintenance and inspection records, driver logs, roadway conditions, and whether another vehicle contributed
- Indiana’s modified comparative fault rule matters when more than one party may share responsibility
- Personal injury claims in Indiana generally must be filed within two years (IC 34-11-2-4), though deadlines can work differently when the injured person is a minor, so it helps not to wait
