Shelby County, IN (August 1, 2026) – A 43-year-old Fairland man died on the morning of August 1, 2026, after his motorcycle struck a semi-trailer at the Interstate 74 overpass for County Road 400 North, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department said Monday.
The crash happened around 4:25 a.m., according to investigators.
Investigators say the man was riding a 2019 Harley-Davidson west on 400 North when he ran a red light and struck the trailer of a 2024 Freightliner. The semi driver, 26-year-old Arif Ozer of Primos, Pennsylvania, was exiting eastbound I-74 and turning east on a green light at the time of the crash, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
The motorcyclist died at the scene. The Shelby County Coroner’s Office said it will release his name after notifying his family.
Emergency crews from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, Shelbyville Fire Department, Shelbyville Police Department, and Fairland Fire Department had not completed their investigation as of Monday afternoon.
