Indianapolis, IN – I-65 Shut Down for Over an Hour After Injury Crash Involving Semi

I-65 Shut Down for Over an Hour

Indianapolis, IN (August 24, 2026) – A crash involving a semi closed part of Interstate 65 on the city’s northwest side for more than an hour early Monday morning, according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.

The crash happened around 4:35 a.m. on I-65 northbound near mile marker 127.3, just north of 86th Street. An INDOT alert citing the Indiana State Police confirmed the crash involved an injury.

INDOT traffic cameras showed the interstate at a standstill with emergency vehicles at the scene. The semi’s trailer was left blocking the roadway.

By 5:55 a.m., crews had moved the trailer, and traffic began flowing again, though drivers were still encountering some slowdowns. Police have not released how many vehicles were involved, who was injured, or what caused the crash.

This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.

Injury Crashes Involving Semis on Indiana Interstates

Who is responsible when a commercial vehicle is involved in an injury crash? That depends on facts not yet released here, including how many vehicles were involved and what caused the crash. A trucking company can share liability with its driver depending on maintenance, loading, and dispatch practices.

What should someone hurt in this crash do now? See a doctor promptly, even if the injury seems minor, and avoid giving a recorded statement to any insurer, including a trucking company’s, before speaking with an attorney.

What evidence matters most in a commercial vehicle crash? The truck’s electronic logging data, dispatch records, and any dashcam footage. All three are commonly overwritten or deleted within days unless someone requests they be preserved.

Indiana law generally gives injury victims two years from the date of a crash to file a personal injury claim (IC 34-11-2-4). For this crash, that deadline falls on August 24, 2028.

Getting hurt in a predawn crash on the interstate, with a trailer blocking the road and no clear answers yet about how it happened, is disorienting on top of being painful.

Our Indianapolis car accident lawyers regularly work through crashes like this one, and where a commercial carrier is involved, an Indiana truck accident lawyer on our team can request the semi’s records before they disappear.

Electronic logging data has a limited retention window, so the sooner someone asks for it, the more likely it still exists.

We work on contingency. There is no upfront cost to talk with us, and nothing owed unless we recover for you.
