Indianapolis, IN (August 31, 2026) – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to the intersection of Capitol Avenue and Washington Street, near the Artsgarden in downtown Indianapolis, for a reported crash around 3:05 a.m.
IMPD said a Dodge Ram pickup truck was heading southbound when it struck a person riding an e-bike heading westbound. The rider, a man, died at the scene.
Police said the driver of the pickup remained at the scene and was cooperating with detectives.
It was unknown whether alcohol was a factor in the crash, according to IMPD. Police said it is still not clear if any other factors contributed.
Washington and Capitol were shut down for several hours after the crash on the morning of August 31. The man’s identity has not been released.
