Bloomington, IN - Two Injured in Head-On Collision on North Walnut Street

Bloomington, IN (December 16, 2025) – Two individuals were hospitalized on Tuesday afternoon following a head-on collision on the north side of Bloomington. The accident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. in the 2700 block of North Walnut Street, involving a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox and a 2001 Honda sedan.

According to the Bloomington Police Department, the incident unfolded when a blue Honda sedan traveling southbound crossed the center line for unknown reasons. The vehicle entered the northbound lane, striking a white Chevrolet Equinox head-on. The force of the impact caused significant damage to both vehicles and left the driver of the Honda trapped inside the wreckage.

Emergency responders from the Bloomington Fire Department performed an extrication to free the driver of the Honda, identified as a 23-year-old woman from Nashville, Indiana. She was transported to a local hospital with suspected broken bones. The driver of the Chevrolet, a 37-year-old man from Brooklyn, Indiana, sustained a bloody nose and abrasions to his head, chest, and knees. He reported losing consciousness upon impact and was also taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

Investigating officers noted that the account of the Honda crossing the center line was corroborated by a witness driving behind the Chevrolet and by surveillance footage obtained from a local business. While police confirmed the 23-year-old driver showed no immediate signs of impairment, the investigation remains open as authorities determine why the vehicle veered out of its lane.

Our thoughts are with both individuals involved in this collision, and we wish them a full and swift recovery from their injuries.

What to do After a Serious Car Accident in Indiana

If you are involved in a crossover or head-on collision in Indiana, the steps you take in the following days are critical for a personal injury claim. First, ensure you follow up with all medical referrals; injuries involving a loss of consciousness or extrication trauma require specialized diagnostic imaging to rule out long-term complications.

In Indiana, liability is governed by modified comparative negligence (IC § 34-51-2-6). This means that even if a police report indicates a clear lane violation, insurance adjusters may still attempt to minimize the payout based on perceived fault. To protect your rights, avoid providing recorded statements to insurance companies and preserve all physical evidence, such as dashcam footage or witness contact information, to prove the other driver’s negligence and secure recovery for medical expenses and lost wages.
