Henry County, IN (Dec 04, 2026) – A collision involving two semi-trucks, including a tanker hauling racing fuel, sent one person to the hospital and shut down westbound Interstate 70 Sunday afternoon. The crash was reported around 12:45 p.m. near the 120 mile-marker in Spiceland.
According to the Indiana State Police and the Knightstown Wayne Township Fire Department, the impact caused the tanker to spill between 100 and 200 gallons of racing fuel onto the roadway.
Emergency crews closed all westbound lanes for several hours to manage the hazardous spill and investigate the scene.
One individual was transported to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
The specific cause of the crash has not yet been released.
Truck Accidents in Indiana, IN
Commercial truck accidents are frequent on Indiana’s major transit corridors like I-70, I-65, and I-465. These collisions are often caused by unsafe lane changes, following too closely, fatigue, or mechanical failures. Because commercial vehicles can weigh up to 80,000 pounds, even low-speed impacts often result in catastrophic injuries or fatalities.
Under Indiana Code § 34-11-2-4, victims have two years to file a personal injury claim.
However, truck accidents are legally complex because they involve federal motor carrier regulations and multiple potentially liable parties, such as the driver, the trucking company, or the cargo loaders.
Because Indiana follows modified comparative negligence, insurance companies often try to shift fault to the victim to avoid paying. To protect your rights, it is essential to act quickly to preserve evidence like electronic logging device (ELD) data and truck “black box” records.
