St. Joseph County, IN (Jan 25, 2026) – A fatal collision claimed the life of a driver Monday morning on U.S. 24 between Roanoke and Huntington. Emergency crews responded to the intersection of N 200 E shortly before 10 a.m. following reports of a crash involving a Jeep and a semi-tanker.
Preliminary investigations by the Huntington County Sheriff’s Department revealed that the driver of the Jeep was traveling westbound when they lost control on the snowy and icy roadway. The vehicle crossed the median into the opposite lanes, resulting in a T-bone collision with the semi. Both vehicles ultimately came to a rest in the median.
The driver of the Jeep was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi-tanker was assessed by medical personnel and cleared of any injuries.
Officials noted that snowy and icy road conditions were present at the time of the crash and are believed to have contributed to the collision. The incident remains under investigation.
Semi-truck Accidents in Indiana, IN
Freeway accidents on busy corridors like U.S. 24 are a frequent hazard due to heavy traffic and high-speed driving conditions. These risks are significantly increased by snowy and icy weather, where even small errors in judgment or loss of traction can result in serious consequences. Because semi-trucks possess massive weight and size, collisions with passenger vehicles often result in life-altering or fatal injuries, including traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord damage, and internal trauma.
