Indianapolis, IN (Dec 23, 2025) – A tragic two-vehicle collision on Indianapolis’ near northeast side claimed the life of one child and left three others injured Tuesday afternoon. IMPD officers responded to the intersection of 34th Street and N. Keystone Avenue at approximately 4:44 p.m.
Preliminary investigations released Wednesday morning indicate that a truck traveling northbound on Keystone Avenue ran a red light. The truck struck a Hyundai that was traveling southbound and attempting to turn onto 34th Street. The force of the impact caused the Hyundai to leave the roadway and collide with a fence.
Four children were passengers in the back seat of the Hyundai at the time of the crash. All four were transported to local hospitals.
One child, who was taken to the hospital by a family member, was later pronounced dead. Of the remaining three children, one was listed in critical condition, and two were reported as stable.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family during this unimaginable time, and our thoughts are with the children remaining in the hospital.
What to do After Car Accidents in Indiana, IN?
When a car accident results from a driver running a red light, the legal implications focus on clear negligence. If you are involved in such an incident, you should:
- Seek Immediate Care: Children involved in high-impact collisions require specific pediatric trauma evaluations, as internal injuries may not be immediately obvious.
- Ensure a Police Report is Filed: In cases involving major injuries or fatalities, the IMPD crash reconstruction team will gather evidence. This report is vital for proving the other driver ignored traffic signals.
- Identify Witnesses: Red-light accidents often happen in busy intersections. Collecting contact information from bystanders can provide crucial testimony regarding the color of the traffic lights at the time of the impact.
- Preserve Electronic Evidence: Modern trucks often have “black box” data that can prove speed and braking patterns. An attorney can help ensure the trucking company or insurer does not delete this data.
In Indiana, families affected by such tragedies may pursue wrongful death or personal injury claims to cover medical expenses and the profound loss of a loved one.
