Indianapolis, IN (Mar 03, 2026) – The Indiana State Police (ISP) is currently investigating a violent hit-and-run collision that occurred on the northwest side of Indianapolis. The crash took place today on I-65 northbound at mile marker 126, in the vicinity of Traders Lane and 82nd Street.
According to ISP investigators, the force of the collision caused one vehicle to become inverted over a guardrail. Emergency responders transported one individual to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the wreck.
While the right lane of I-65 was temporarily closed to allow for recovery and investigation, the interstate has since been reopened.
Authorities are now searching for the driver who fled the scene without rendering aid or providing identification.
Navigating Hit-and-Run Claims in Indiana
In Indiana’s at-fault system, a fleeing driver leaves victims with a complex path to compensation. Your Uninsured Motorist (UM) coverage serves as a vital safety net, providing benefits for medical bills and lost wages when the responsible party cannot be located.
Success in these cases depends heavily on immediate evidence. Footage from INDOT traffic cameras or dashcams and witness statements from the Traders Lane area are essential to verify the crash and support your claim.
Additionally, under Indiana’s modified comparative fault rule, you can only recover damages if you are less than 51% responsible. Proving you were not at fault is critical to ensuring your own insurance provider pays the full value of your claim.
