Indianapolis, IN – Three Children Hospitalized Following Hit-and-Run Crash at Madison Avenue Yesterday

hit-and-run crash on Indy's south side

Indianapolis, IN (December 22, 2025) – Three young children were transported to a hospital on Monday afternoon following a hit-and-run collision on Indianapolis’ south side. The crash occurred at approximately 3:50 p.m. at the intersection of Madison Avenue and East Stop 10 Road.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), the incident involved two vehicles. When officers arrived, they found one vehicle remaining at the scene containing three young children. Investigators confirmed that one of the children was ejected from the car during the impact. All three children were taken to a local hospital and are reportedly in stable condition.

Witnesses and police reports indicate that the second vehicle involved fled the scene immediately after the collision. IMPD crash investigators are currently working to identify the driver and the car responsible for the hit-and-run. Traffic delays were reported in the area of Southport Road while the on-scene investigation continued.

Our thoughts are with the injured children and their families, and we wish them a full and speedy recovery.

What to do After a Hit-and-Run Accident in Indiana, IN?

If you are involved in a hit-and-run accident in Indiana, taking the following steps is vital for your health and legal recovery:

  • Seek Medical Care: Adrenaline can mask symptoms of serious internal trauma or concussions. Ensure all passengers, especially children, receive a full medical evaluation.
  • Call 911: Reporting a hit-and-run is required by law, especially when injuries are involved. A police report is a foundational piece of evidence for insurance claims.
  • Gather Evidence: If safe, take photos of your vehicle, the accident scene, and any debris left behind by the fleeing car. Collect contact information from any witnesses who saw the event.
  • Identify Insurance Options: In Indiana, if the at-fault driver is not found, you may be eligible to recover damages through your Uninsured Motorist (UM) coverage. This coverage is mandatory in Indiana unless explicitly rejected in writing.
  • Consult an Attorney: Hit-and-run cases involve complex criminal and civil elements. A lawyer can help investigate the incident and handle negotiations with insurance adjusters.
