Indianapolis, IN – Two Critically Injured in Motorcycle and SUV Collision on East Raymond Street

Indianapolis, IN - Two Critically Injured in Motorcycle and SUV Collision on East Raymond Street

Indianapolis, IN (Feb 20, 2026) – Two people are in critical condition following a major collision between a motorcycle and an SUV on Indianapolis’ near southeast side Friday morning.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), officers were dispatched to the 2600 block of E Raymond Street after receiving reports of a personal injury accident.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a motorcycle, carrying both a driver and a passenger, was traveling southeast on Churchman Avenue when it collided with an SUV. The force of the impact caused both individuals on the motorcycle to be thrown from the bike. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they remain in critical condition.

The SUV involved, driven by an adult male, was traveling from E LeGrande Avenue onto Churchman Avenue at the time of the crash. Following the impact, the SUV left the roadway and came to rest in a nearby cemetery. The driver of the SUV was taken to the hospital for a routine blood draw; however, IMPD officials stated there were no immediate signs of impairment at the scene.

Our thoughts are with the injured riders and their families as they face a difficult road to recovery.

Motorcycle Accidents in Indianapolis, IN

A motorcycle accident at a busy intersection like E. Raymond Street and Churchman Avenue often results in catastrophic injuries for the rider and their passenger. Because motorcycles offer very little physical protection, occupants are frequently thrown from the vehicle upon impact with larger SUVs. Under Indiana law, injured riders and passengers have the legal right to seek compensation for medical bills, lost wages, and long-term rehabilitation costs if the other driver is found to be negligent.

Determining liability in intersection accidents involves a thorough review of right-of-way laws and driver behavior. Even if the other driver was not impaired, factors such as distracted driving or failing to yield when entering a roadway are common causes of motorcycle collisions. Because insurance companies often attempt to shift the blame onto the motorcyclist, it is vital to have a professional investigation that includes a review of the police report, witness statements, and any available traffic camera footage to protect the rights of the injured.
