Ellettsville, IN (Dec 18, 2025 ) – A tragic head-on collision involving two vehicles late yesterday night has left two people dead and three others injured on State Road 46. The incident occurred just before 9:00 p.m. near the intersection of Cypress Lane.
According to the Ellettsville Police Department, a preliminary investigation indicates that a car traveling westbound on the highway unexpectedly crossed the center line. The vehicle then collided head-on with an eastbound vehicle in the opposing lane.
Authorities confirmed that both occupants of the westbound vehicle were pronounced dead as a result of the crash. Three individuals traveling in the eastbound vehicle survived the impact. They were transported to a hospital in Bloomington for treatment and are reportedly in stable condition.
Local law enforcement is continuing to investigate the factors that led the westbound driver to drift into opposing traffic.
We express our deepest sympathies to the families grieving the loss of their loved ones and wish a full recovery to those injured.
What to Do After a Car Accident in Indiana
Being involved in a serious crash is a traumatic experience, but the actions taken immediately afterward can significantly impact your ability to recover compensation. If you are involved in a collision in Indiana, it is critical to follow these steps to protect your legal rights:
- Seek Medical Attention: Do not delay medical treatment. Even if injuries seem minor, adrenaline can mask symptoms of serious conditions like whiplash or internal bleeding. A medical record links your injuries directly to the accident.
- Call 911 immediately: Indiana law requires drivers to report accidents involving injury, death, or significant property damage. Ensure a police officer arrives to document the scene and create an official crash report, which is a vital piece of evidence.
- Document the Scene: If you are physically able, take photos of the vehicles, skid marks, road conditions, and any visible injuries. Collect names and contact information from witnesses.
- Be Careful with Insurance Adjusters: Indiana follows a “fault” system for car accidents, meaning the at-fault driver is liable for damages. Insurance adjusters may try to minimize their payout by asking for recorded statements. It is advisable to speak with an attorney before providing detailed statements to the opposing insurance company.
